This problem is not confined within national boundaries and is =20= not specific to any discipline. We must work together to solve the =20 challenges posed by this historic change. Whilst easily envisaged, =20 collaborative working across national boundaries requires commitment, =20= planning and co-ordination, and the theme of this year=92s conference is = =20 designed to focus minds on how that can be achieved. There are, in addition, further areas where the community needs to =20 consider the value of a joined up approach. Stronger links can be =20 forged between libraries and archives or between those practising =20 scientific data curation and those involved with preserving arts and =20 humanities information or learning materials. We need to strengthen =20 the ties between theory and practice in digital preservation. It =20 should be possible to show that preservation practice is underpinned =20 by theory and can deliver benefits to stakeholder communities. iPRES is a series of international conferences that seek to address =20 issues relating to digital preservation by bringing together experts =20 and practitioners across the spectrum of digital preservation =20 disciplines. We invite you to submit papers and presentations that =20 present substantial new results, contribute to the conceptual =20 foundations of digital preservation, or show novel applications of =20 existing work. Empirical evidence demonstrating what works =96 and what =20= doesn=92t =96 is also welcome. Abstracts must be submitted in AAAI style (pdf only). http://www.aaai.org/Publications/Author/author.php Abstracts are limited to 2 pages maximum including title and author =20 information, but excluding references. The evaluation of the =20 submission will be based on the quality of the submission. Submission will be through http:papers@bl.uk/ipres08. Final versions of papers may be considerably longer than the =20 submissions: for each accepted paper 8 pages in AAAI.style will be =20 allocated in the proceedings.
