“Designing Libraries” returns to the NCSU Libraries
Annual conference considers the future of library spaces and services

The NCSU Libraries will host Designing Libraries 6, an annual conference that gathers librarians, architects, planners, designers, and information technologists to discuss the challenges and achievements of designing libraries and learning centers for the twenty-first century. This will be the third time the NCSU Libraries has hosted the conference.

Running Sept. 17-19, sessions will feature an array of topics including:
  • DL6 Logocase studies of recent public and academic library projects
  • new developments in large-scale visualization
  • programming digital scholarship services and spaces
  • the role of diversity and accessibility in designing welcoming spaces
  • creating digital interactive experiences
  • using programs and workshops to promote new spaces
Two optional pre-conferences are offered on Sept. 17:
  • At the James B. Hunt Jr. Library, “Stronger Together: Thinking Through the Intersection of Space Design and Organizational Change” will utilize a workshop format to encourage individuals and institutional teams to think through the challenges and opportunities for their organizations while redesigning spaces.
  • At the D. H. Hill Library, “Virtual Reality and Makerspaces” will explore spaces that are bringing Virtual Reality together with spaces for making and provide a discussion of the projects that students and faculty are creating with these new tools.

In-depth tours of the James B. Hunt Jr. Library and the D. H. Hill Library will also be offered.

Along with the NCSU Libraries, the conference co-sponsors are the University of Calgary and the Coalition for Networked Information. The conference location rotates among the sponsors each year.

Visit the conference site for schedule and registration information.
