Colleagues,

I share below an invitation to join an open call of the EDUCAUSE Research Computing and Data Community Group (RCD CG) in which work related to the ARL/CNI AI Scenarios will be discussed. The event will be held this Thursday, June 26th, 1:00-2:00 pm ET - details are below, including the Zoom link to join the call.

More information about the ARL/CNI AI scenarios, which were published in June 2024, is available at https://www.cni.org/events/cni-workshops/arl-cni-joint-task-force-on-scenario-planning-for-artificial-intelligence-machine-learning-futures.

My thanks to RCD CG leadership for featuring this topic, and for bringing this event to my attention!

Title: Strategic Foresight in Research Computing: Leveraging the ARL/CNI AI Scenarios

How might artificial intelligence reshape the research environment—and what does that mean for research computing strategy?
Presented by Cynthia Hudson Vitale, Associate Dean for Technology Strategy and Digital Services at Johns Hopkins University Libraries

This webinar introduces the ARL CNI 2035 AI Scenarios, a set of four plausible, AI-influenced futures developed by the Association of Research Libraries and the Coalition for Networked Information. Designed as a strategic foresight tool, the scenarios help research leaders examine emerging risks and opportunities, test institutional assumptions, and imagine new roles, services, and infrastructure in a rapidly evolving landscape.

Attendees will get an overview of the scenarios and hear concrete examples of how they can be used to spark strategic conversations and planning in research computing and data services. Whether you're focused on workforce, infrastructure, campus partnerships, or policy alignment, the scenarios offer a structured way to think beyond short-term planning and prepare for long-term impact.
